Richard L. Rydell


Richard L. Rydell, MBA, FACHE, LFHIMSS is a founder and CEO of the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems (AMDIS) the premier physician membership organization dedicated to advance the field of applied medical informatics and improve the practice of medicine through direct physician use of information technology. Mr. Rydell has a distinguished career as a healthcare executive serving as a Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Memorial Health Services, Long Beach; Stanford University Medical Center; and Baystate Health Services. He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and a Fellow and Life Member of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society.  He served as National Chairman of the HIMSS Board of Directors and was a founding Board Member and Vice Chairman of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives. Mr. Rydell was selected as one of the HIMSS 50 in 50:  Memorable Contributors in HIMSS’ 50 Year History. a special recognition program recognizing 50 individuals who have contributed to the field of healthcare information technology and management systems, and the improvement of healthcare through technology. 

Mr. Rydell is the co-author of the popular books, The Physician-Computer Connection and The Physician-Computer Conundrum and co-editor of The CMIO Survival Guide. Mr. Rydell serves an elected hospital board member of the Seneca Healthcare District, Chester, California.
