Dr. Joe Heyman is a board certified practicing gynecologist in Amesbury, Massachusetts. In private practice since 1973, Joe has been solo since 2001with a decade of paperless practice and an interactive web site for his patients.
A former chair of the American Medical Association, a former president of the Massachusetts Medical Society, Joe is currently chair of the National Physician Advisory Board for OptumInsight.
Joe has served on the Boards of his local hospital, the American Medical Association, the American Medical Association Foundation, the Joint Commission and Joint Commission Resources/International , The Tufts Health Plan, the Massachusetts Medical Society, the Whittier IPA, the Lower Merrimac Valley PHO, and Wellport, a health information exchange for the greater Newburyport Medical Community and its patients.
He serves on the Steering Committee of Markle Foundation’s Connecting for Health, co-chair of the Continuity of Care Council for the eHealth Initiative, the Implementation and Adoption/Certification workgroups for the Office of the National Coordinator, and the EHR Advisory Board for the iHealth Alliance.
Dr. Heyman graduated with a BS from City College of New York in 1963, an MD from the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center in 1967, and did his residency training at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore from 1970-73. He served from 1968-70 as a commissioned officer in the US Public Health Service at the Northern Navajo Indian Hospital in Shiprock, New Mexico.
