CMS Posts Latest Summary of Payments Under EHR Incentive Program: Total Payments to Date Almost $4.5 Billion

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services posted today latest payments made through March 2012, under the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Program. According to the latest report, nearly $4.5 billion in federal incentives have been paid out to date.

More than $792 million in Medicare payments have been made to 44,014 eligible professionals, while Medicaid programs have made more than $628 million in payments to 29,931 eligible professionals. The report summarizes the number and amount of payments by specialty.

There have been 2,667 payments made to hospitals, totaling nearly $3.1 billion for both the Medicare and Medicaid programs. There are now 225,765 active registrants in the system, including both eligible professionals and hospitals.
